First, let’s talk about COVID-19 Case Counts in Hawaii:

  • 16 new cases today and about 52 in the five days prior; so an average of about 11 new cases each day over the past week
  • Fortunately, Hawaii has some of the lowest case counts in the entire country and officials are doing all they can to keep it that way!

Next, Visitor Travel Restrictions:

  • A 14-day mandatory quarantine remains in effect for ALL out-of-state Visitors and returning residents through July 31, 2020. The nature of this quarantine is that you are not allowed to leave your accommodations. (See our June 10, 2020 Breaking News update for more details)
  • As such, we suggest non-residents do not travel to Hawaii until this quarantine has been lifted.
  • Inter-island travel, for Hawaii residents, was resumed on June 16 with no quarantine required.
  • Forms required for quarantine-free inter-island travel; soon to add new technology in conjunction with the forms so that when you’ve completed the forms you could get a digital QR code sent to your phone and could then show that to airport screeners to expedite the process

  • Literally the day we have all been anxiously awaiting for weeks now!
  • There was a press conference of unprecedented proportions, from the standpoint of all who were in attendance and what it represented. The Governor, Lt Governor, Dept of Health, Dept of Transportation, County Mayors, elected officials from the State House and Senate and many more.
  • See Gov. Ige’s Facebook page for the full video!
  • The BIG announcement is that AUGUST 1, 2020 is THE day that visitors to hawaii can pre-test out of the onerous 14-day mandatory quarantine!
  • This is huge news as Hawaii has been under VERY strict quarantine requirements for months now. Cases are low and infection rates are low. We need to keep Hawaii safe.
  • Important details and updates will be shared in the coming weeks, but suffice it to say that there should be an ability to test negative within 72 hours prior to arrival in Hawaii, through an approved testing partner, such as CVS, for example. Details are forthcoming.
  • The State of Hawaii will then validate those tests and as long as Travelers test negative prior to arrival they would NOT be subject to the 14-day quarantine.
  • With that said, there are a number of highly important things that everyone should be aware of and consider with regards to planning travel to Hawaii:
    • First, book your flights, hotels and accommodations as soon as possible! You better believe rates are going to be going up as demand increases so to get the best deal possible. Book now!
    • Our Company is offering a special discount to anyone who chooses to travel in August and you can reach out to our Director of Reservations, Amber Schoneberg, by email at and by phone at 844-577-8800 Ext. 1. That’s 844-577-8800 Ext. 1.
    • Keep up to date with testing options and partners and plan to have your test done within that 72 hour window to be on the safe side.
    • Next, BRING YOUR MASKS and be prepared to wear your masks on the flight and also when you are going to stores in Hawaii, restaurants, etc. ALL visitors need to respect our LOCAL rules and our request that you wear your mask when in close proximity to others in public.
    • Don’t worry, you don’t need to wear a mask while lounging at the beach, or when sitting down in a restaurant at your table. It’s just those high risk situations. We need everyone to be compliant with this as it will help us to prevent another shutdown and to reduce the spreading of COVID-19. Thank you for respecting the local traditions in Hawaii and being compliant with this. It IS important.
    • There is community spread at a small scale so even though you come here and don’t have it, there is the very rare chance you could get it here if you do not practice the safe standards everyone has been preaching about for weeks.
    • Do NOT try to come to Hawaii if you are not going to test out. No one will enjoy 14-days in quarantine. Don’t do that to yourself.
    • Also, keep in mind that even if you test negative, if you show up at the airport with a temperature ABOVE 100.4 degrees and/or are demonstrating COVID-like symptoms, you may be put through additional screening before being allowed to leave the airport.

What is the Status of legal Vacation Rentals:

  • Legal vacation rentals are still Deemed as non-essential, as least for Honolulu County on Oahu.
  • We are working on that and our HILSTRA organization will be leading the way to ensure legal short-term rentals can reopen on or before Aug. 1, 2020.
  • Please note that we do not anticipate any issues currently or in the future with bookings at the Beach Villas at Ko Olina resort, regardless of any temporary restrictions on legal short-term rentals on Oahu. Again, the expectation is that any restrictions on short-term rentals will soon be lifted as the majority of small businesses are now able to reopen.
